What is the weather like in Turkey?

Generally the spring and autumn is mild and warm with cooler evenings. From May to end of September days are sunny and hot with warm evenings. July and August are the hottest months. For an up to date weather report, please go to HYPERLINK “http://www.accuweather.com/en/tr/dalaman/319473/weather-forecast/319473″www.acuweather.com and search for Bodrum.

What is the accommodation like?

The accommodation is comfortable, homey and simply but carefully designed. All bathrooms have showers, but no baths. None of the rooms are equipped with TV’s; it is a great idea to get away from TV whilst you are on the retreat, so you can experience a full mind and body detox. Due to the thick stone walls using lime & sand mortar, as well the site’s north facing location, the rooms stay very cool and comfortable in the mid summer heat.

Can I go sightseeing and shopping near by?

Karakaya is only 10 minutes away from the coastal village of Gümüşlük by car or scooter. Alternatively the hike down the valley to the village is both fun and beautiful. Thanks to strictly enforced building prohibitions, Gümüşlük has kept its original appearance and photogenic fishing village charm.

Your feet are touching historical ground here; Gümüşlük is site of the ancient harbour and sunken city of Myndos. The remains of the castle walls and the basilica are still visible today, while a lot of new excavation is still underway as a result of new discoveries in the past few years.

Gümüşlük has local cafés, beach bars and a pretty pier, an art gallery, handcraft stalls, and many excellent seafood restaurants along the small waterfront. The beach is great for relaxing, sun bathing and swimming. A local farmers’ market is held every Wednesday.

Bodrum is 40 minutes by local bus from Gümüşlük and is a hive of activity with local markets, boutique and high end shopping, 5 star marinas, a wide range of dining options, café culture, and a world-famous nightlife. Bodrum Castle and the mausoleum (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World) are also popular sights to visit. The Castle of the Knights of St Peter in particular is beautifully preserved fort offering great views of the town and Bodrum’s twin crescent harbours. It is also home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology.

Can children visit and participate at Karakaya Retreat?

It is important that anyone thinking to bring children to stay understands and respects this. Please attend your child at ALL times; the center is not necessarily childproof, for example, there is a pool of 1.60 m in depth. For things here for kids to do, please check the daily program on site. We usually have international volunteers doing fun daily activities as well as arts & crafts. Thank you!

Can you cater for my food allergies?

Please let us know about your food allergies and we will do our best to cater to your needs. We usually offer vegan, gluten and non-dairy options with each meal.

Are workshops facilitated in English or Turkish?

It depends on the facilitator; some are in Turkish and some are in English, we usually provide translation.
